The Riverhawk men came into the nest Wednesday night Jan. 23 with back to back wins looking to stretch the win streak against the third ranked team in the NWAACC southern conference.

The ‘Hawks came out with tenacious defense, forcing Lane Community College to take poor shots. The Riverhawks also used their full court press to slow down the fast paced Titan offense.

At the end of the first half, the score was knotted up at 25 all.

After half time, LCC showed a renewed vigor and went on a 7-1 run. The Riverhawks crashed the boards to claw their way back and take the lead. The second half had several lead changes due to forced shots and over-aggressive defense. UCC took an eight point lead with three minutes left in the game. They went on to win the game 64-56.

“It felt good to get a win against the number three ranked team in the NWAACC [southern conference]. We played unselfishly with good chemistry. Hopefully we can keep the win streak going,” Zach Ginter said, who contributed 13 points and six rebounds to the Riverhawks' victory.

Umpqua finished with Jared Knox, Zach Ginter and Jeremy Smith in double digit scoring, accentuating the importance of teamwork.

“It was a great team effort. We practiced being tough and fighting for every opportunity to get our hands on the ball, and we executed our game plan,” coach Richard Robles said.

The men will host Southwestern Oregon Community College Wednesday 7:30 p.m., promptly starting after the women’s game.
