Additions to permanent art collection debut Feb. 13

The UCC Art Gallery announces New Works, an exhibit of artwork recently acquired for the college’s permanent art collection.

The opening reception will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at the gallery in the Whipple Fine Arts Center on UCC’s main campus. The evening is free.

Many of the artists will be in attendance, and Susan Rochester, curator of the UCC Art Collection, will give a brief presentation describing the selection process. Food will be provided by students in the culinary arts program.

New Works features 37 art objects created by 24 contemporary artists. The selection process involved a task force of eight, comprised of college administration, faculty, staff and students. More than 1,100 works of art by 115 artists, all with active studio practices in the Pacific Northwest, applied for consideration. Five of the selected artists are from Douglas County.
