Toll free phones installed
Students request for access to public phones granted

New phones, free for local calls, have been installed next to the concession stand at the PE building, in Wayne Crooch in the back breezeway, at the Technology Center, in the library lobby, and there are plans to install another phone soon right outside of the bookstore. The college plans to add even more in the future, according to UCC’s phone network administrator, Rick Burson. Burson isn’t sure how many phones will be added this year, but said the college would eventually like to have one for public access in every building.

These phones, although able to call out to local numbers, cannot receive incoming calls.  Some of the phones are currently having troubles; they will operate for about an hour and then shut off, but Burson is working with the phone company to fix the problem. Right now, the phones must be continually rebooted.

Signs with the number to reach security will also be posted near the phones to assist in case of an emergency.
