Volleyball Wins Berth in NWAACC Tournament

The Riverhawks volleyball team took flight towards the end of this year’s season in spite of a rough take off.

Similarly, Wednesday’s game started out slow,  as the women lost their first game, 20-25, to the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College, but the lady Riverhawks bounced back, ultimately defeating the Lakers in the next three games.

“It was sophomore night, and we knew we had to win it for them,” said freshman Linsey Jones.

The Riverhawks won the last three games with scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-21. “I think game one woke us up and sparked a little fire in our bodies, and we took care of business,” said coach Munoz.

After this win, the Riverhawks geared up to battle Chemeketa Saturday, trying to earn the last and final playoff spot in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College’s regional playoffs.

The Riverhawks played at Chemeketa, keeping the audience in suspense by losing both of the first two games by a score of 20-25. However, they clinched the come-from-behind victory by winning the last three games 25-23, 25-15 and 15-11. This win pushed the Riverhawks into the playoffs.

“This is the first time UCC will be going to the NWAACC tournament since 1994,” says Athletic Director Cheryl Yoder.
