The Art of Dance

Brandi Gardner, UCC science major, and her fellow students found a way to keep their spirits high and their hearts pumping during the winter blues.

Gardner facilitated a dance movement on campus. She is president, founder and creative director of the UCC Dance Club which started in June.

The club teaches a plethora of dance styles in one to two hour weekly sessions Tuesday 11-1 p.m. and Friday from 4:00 -5:30 at PE 14. Only students and faculty may join the club. If a member wants to bring someone who is not associated with UCC they must get permission from the Gardner. Gardner started the club to give herself and other students a way to relax and get a work out at the same time. She also enjoys the artistry of dance.

“Dance means freedom, power of expression, and it describes artists who use their bodies to paint their pictures,” said Gardner. The positive ramifications of dancing may even stimulate your mind. “Dancing is the perfect activity to keep the brain young,” as said by neurologist Dr. Majid Fotuhi, CNN News.

Kathryn Fix dedicated dancer from the beginning of the club said. “Dancing is a way to build self-confidence and release your stress.”

The dance club may go out together for a dancing expedition near the end of February, and they are working on hosting a dance sometime during spring term.

The club has a Facebook site that includes pictures, activities and updates. The username to get in to their profile is UCC Dance Club. Fliers are also posted all around the campus with the club information and session times.

The club adviser is Spanish instructor Ni Aodagain. For further information Brandi can be contacted at 541-643-1563.
