New Leadership Oregon, is an award winning program focused on helping women reach their full potential in leadership roles. Annually housed during the summer at the Center for Women’s Leadership at Portland State University, the intense six day program gives participants the empowerment and skills to take on leadership positions in the workforce, politics and other aspects of life.
“It broadened my lens. I didn’t know there was so much out there.”
–Maycie Williamson,
communications student
Maycie Williamson, a NLO alumni and UCC communications student, was selected out of 180 applicants last year. “I’m not a leader, so why have they chosen me?” Williamson said. Throughout the time she spent at PSU, she made new friends and created connections with some of the country’s most influential women.
“It broadened my lens. I didn’t know there was so much out there,” said Williamson. “We are good enough to be president. We are incredibly needed today.”
Participants are provided with everything they need to live and learn during the program. “The food is phenomenal. I’d go back if only for the food.”
Williamson encourages every woman who attends college to apply. Full scholarships are available. Applications can be found online on the PDX website. The deadline is Feb. 3, 2016.

Communications student Maycie Williamson was chosen for New Leadership Oregon’s summer program. Williams was selected from nearly 200 applicants to attend the program, held at Portland State University. New Leadership Oregon is part of PSU’s Hatfield School of Government Center for Women’s Leadership.
